How do I find my port number?

Step 1: Send the following text message - PORT followed by your 10-digit mobile number to TRAI's central number for mobile number portability - 1900. Example: Send 'PORT 98xxxxxx98' to 1900. You'll receive an SMS back with a Port out code.

Then type “netstat -a” and press “Enter.” A list of all your active TCP/IP connections will populate. The port numbers appear after the IP address with a colon separating the two. For example, if your IP address is 192.168.1.1 and you see an entry for 192.168.1.1:2869, it means port 2869 is open.

A port number is a way to identify a specific process to which an Internet or other network message is to be forwarded when it arrives at a server.

For the Transmission Control Protocol and the User Datagram Protocol, a port number is a 16-bit integer that is put in the header appended to a message unit.

This port number is passed logically between client and server transport layers and physically between the transport layer and the Internet Protocol layer and forwarded on.
